The FM(Fibrin Monomer) test is one of the tests to detect hypercoagulability, and Shimadzu Diagnostics is supporting its business.

What’s the Fibrin Monomer Complex(FMC)

Fibrin is a protein involved in blood coagulation (blood coagulation). It is a fibrous protein that polymerizes with platelets due to scratches and wraps blood cells to form blood clots. It plays a central role in hemostasis and thrombus formation.

Fibrin is a protein involved in blood coagulation (blood coagulation). It is a fibrous protein that polymerizes with platelets due to scratches and wraps blood cells to form blood clots. It plays a central role in hemostasis and thrombus formation.

The blood coagulation system is complex and there are various pathways, but prothrombin is activated to become thrombin, which is one of the serine proteases, and thrombin cuts out a total of four peptides from the C-terminal of each chain of fibrinogen. I will. This condition is especially called Fibrin Monomer.

The hemostatic system to prevent bleeding causes local blood clots in the blood vessels, forming blood clots, by a mechanism similar to that injuring the intima. When vascular permeability increases due to histamine released by granulocytes when a foreign substance such as a bacterium invades, fibrinogen in plasma leaks into tissues, causing inflammation and causing blood coagulation. It is thought that this has the effect of trapping the invading foreign matter in the poorly soluble fiber without diffusing it, and the role of preventing the spread of bacteria by the local blood flow inhibitory action.

Clinical Significance :
With the increase of awareness of “economy class syndrome,” lung embolism, a kind of thrombo-embolic disorder, is gaining attention these days in Japan. Also with the westernization of life styles and aging of society, frequency of lung embolism is found to have increased, and prevention and diagnosis of lung embolism are attracting more attention. Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a disease that causes blood clotting reaction in the blood stream, which is otherwise localized, due to disturbed balance of blood coagulation/fibrinolysis systems caused by such underlying diseases as malignant tumors or leukemia, and is a syndrome that exhibits organopathy and bleeding tendency caused by formation of microthrombus. Usually it has a bad prognosis and therefore early detection and early treatment is important.
As one of the indicators of these kind of blood coagulation disorders, measurement of the amount of fibrin monomer complex in the blood is gaining attention. As soluble fibrin monomer complex reflects generation of very small amount of thrombin, it is reported that the measurement of soluble fibrin monomer complex is effective in diagnosis and monitoring of thrombosis, DIC, etc.
